Had an awesome weekend. We’d planned on a just a quiet weekend at home and I suppose it was but it was a bit busier than we normally would be for a quiet weekend.
On friday we’d planned to meet some friends for dinner and then go to the cinema but ended up beforehand meeting one of Kate’s friends from work who was leaving. So we had a couple in Wetherspoons before going over to the Rock for Pizza Express.

After a nice meal we went over for the 9.45 showing of the Adjustment Bureau. Which was a decent film, not a classic but worth seeing. Any Phillip K. Dick story is probably worth seeing – I think that it might have been done better though and I’m thinking they must have changed the ending quite a bit.
On Saturday we decided to go to the market to pick up a few things, but we decided to walk in a slightly different route to normal (we’re still exploring our adopted hometown). So we found the bike path, which is part of National Cycle Route 6 don’t you know and happened upon a school we didn’t even know existed. I mean i’d seen a couple of the buildings from it from the tram but I didn’t know it was a whole separate other school.
So we went around town and the market finally picking up some coaxial cable from Wilkinsons (a steal at 28p/metre!). Ever since we moved in when we got Sky i’d been meaning to wire the box to the tv upstairs and use Sky Magic Eye to be able to control it. Turns out it works pretty well once you find the right setting on the box and enable it (SERVICES 4 0 1 SELECT).
Anyways, we met Helen in town and the call went out to go to the pub. I like to try out new places but Kate and Helen are a bit more reluctant. But I managed to convince them to try out Wyldes which turns out is a nice big Holts pub. We sat on a comfy sofa and just chatted for a couple of hours. Now this is what Saturday afternoons were invented for!
Helen gave us a lift back home and we did a couple of bits and bobs (this was when I set up the coax cable).
Sunday started out slow but then it was mostly little odd jobs for most of the day. I’d decided to investigate why our dishwasher insists on pumping water onto the kitchen floor – turns out it’s a mystery. I’ve taken apart the drain and found no blockage so put it back together and put a bit of cleaner down it for good measure. So we’ll see how it goes.
Then it was some puttering about in the garden, mowing the lawn while Kate did some planting.
Oh I almost forgot, we made Sausages! Pretty cool. Amazed how well they came out. Kate blogged about it here.
Later we had ourselves a curry (first in ages!) and watched some more of The Promise which has been quite grim but fascinating.
Next weekend or at some point I now need to find a way to tidy the coax trailing through the house. I think i’m going to drill a small hole in the living room ceiling up to the bedroom and get to the tv from under the floor there. Might as well put in some cat5 for the Blu-Ray player whilst we’re at it too I think. Especially as we’re going to want it in the spare room next to the bedroom for a computer desk (when we get round to getting a desk!).
Ah weekends. So short
