One of the ‘big’ purchases you kind of need to make when you find out you’re expecting your first child is a buggy/transportation system for a small person.
It’s a massive can of worms and I found it quite duanting. We did lots of research and in the end went along to The Baby Show in Manchester as we thought it would be a decent opportunity to see lots of prams all in a small space and in a short time.
Low and behold it worked, we found one we really liked and from a shop we didn’t even know existed in our home town. It’s a Baby had a massive stand with loads of prams set out so you could try them out. Even demonstrators from the companies that made each pram.

I found that choosing a pram is a compromise. You need to balance what you want it to be able to do with the size it is and how easy it is to stow, transform and manoeuvre.
In the end we went with the Britax B-Smart which we felt was the best balance of all that we saw. You need to be prepared to spend enough money to get a 17 year old a car so you want to be sure you are going to be happy with it and we are.
Since then we have bought the iso-fix base (from eBay though as they are quite pricey). This was partly because of knowing the thing existed and we now had a car with the fittings for it. There was a day where we were taking the car seat in and out a lot at various car parks for shopping and it was pouring down and we’d had enough.

I don’t know if everything would have fitted quite so well in our old car. I do know we could get at least the carrycot and chassis in as I tested it. But the new Lacetti estate can manage everything and as mentioned has the ISOFIX fittings whereas the Lanos didn’t. The wheels come of the pram to if you need those extra couple of inches to squeeze in more luggage (baby’s need an awful lot of stuff to go away with!).

  4. George’s Favourite Toy (1)

    June 25, 2012 by Daniel

He’s not Oprah, but I thought I’d try to do a regular post on what George’s favourite toy is from time to time.

Previously when he was often in his Baby Gym it was Captain Calamari it has so many bits he can explore to it and it hung really well on the gym so George could really bash at it.

Now he’s able to hold things himself and pick them up if he wants to it’s Sassy Ring Rattle. We try not to leave the house without it!

  5. New things for George

    June 25, 2012 by Daniel

George had a bit of a development spurt last week so we decided that we need to get on and get a couple of things.
He’s picking stuff up now and putting them in his mouth (hence we think a bit illness he had last week).

He doesn’t quite sit up by himself but he’s happy to be put in a sitting position so we got a Mamas & Papas – Baby Snug – Teal. It’s been really good, we’ve been able to sit at the table and eat three meals already (that’s 100% of them!) and he seems quite content in it, albeit at the moment only for just about the length of time that it takes us to eat fairly rapidly – but he does like to watch what we’re doing closely.

The other things we got is because George is really good at holding his head up and after I saw a review of it here it sealed the deal. We got it from Asda, although we had to go to the kind of specialist Asda we have at Manchester Fort which basically does everything but the groceries oddly.
He’s worked out already how to turn around to follow us and sort of makes stepping motions. But it does wear him out quickly!

  9. George Progress Report 13 weeks

    June 19, 2012 by Daniel

My friend Paul was asking me how George was getting on today and he said he had no idea about what Babies can or can’t do at what stage and I realised before Kate fell pregnant I had no idea either.

    George can:
Hold his head up (he’s been able to do this from a really early age)
Smile – sometimes he seems to get a bit shy and hide his head with his hands when he’s smiling
    Reach and grab things
    Puts things into his mouth
Roll onto his front from his back
Less often roll onto his back from his front
